Benefits of Membership

As a member of the BCYBA, you will have access to the following benefits:

Ethics
By joining the BCYBA, every member has agreed to follow an established Code of Ethics detailing conduct of relations with the public and with fellow yacht brokers. In cases where disputes do arise, the BCYBA Ethics Committee, made up of experienced brokers, will monitor the situation and offer arbitration services to resolve the problem.

Common Documents
Our common documents - including Purchase Agreements for both new and used vessels, a Yacht Purchase and Sale Agreement, a Marketing Agreement, a Bill of Sale and a Co-operating Broker Agreement - have been vetted by lawyers experienced in the marine industry and give both brokers and the public the confidence that all aspects of the sale have been documented.

Certification
The BC Yacht Brokers Association has joined with the Certified Professional Yacht Broker Program which was developed to further raise the professional standards of brokers in North America. This designation is internationally recognized. Not only does the Certification Exam test brokers on their overall knowledge of brokering, but also ensures that their knowledge of the boating industry is at a level that will assist boat buyers or sellers in making the right decisions. Accredited brokers can be identified by the use of "CYB" or "CPYB" following their name.

Floating Boat Shows
Members receive a substantial discount on space in BCYBA-sponsored floating shows.

Year-round Preferred Rates at the Inn at Laurel Point
BCYBA members and friends can take advantage of year-round preferred rates at the Inn at Laurel Point. View Rate Card. Reservations can be made individually through the Inn at Laurel Point Reservations Department by calling 1-800-663-7667 or 250-386-8721. For ease of booking, callers should identify themselves as being referred by the BC Yacht Brokers Association.

Group Insurance
In conjunction with Travelers (St Paul Fire & Marine) Insurance Company, the BCYBA and Navis Marine Insurance Brokers have come up with a "One Policy Solution," an exclusive benefit to BCYBA members. The one policy solution allows you to select the coverages applicable to your individual needs and have all the coverage under one policy. Visit www.navismarine.ca/bcyba for more details.

Listing in Member Directory
The BCYBA has its own site to promote members and the benefits of dealing with professional certified yacht brokers. Each corporate member of the Association is entitled to a listing in our member directory which can be accessed by the public.

Advertising Campaigns
As part of the BCYBA, you'll receive the additional benefit of being listed as one of our member companies in our advertising. The public has come to recognize the value of dealing with a BCYBA member and will more than likely choose a broker associated with the BCYBA over one that is not.

Regulation Updates
In conjunction with the BC Marine Trades Association, the BCYBA monitors many issues which affect the recreational marine industry. HST/TDP regulations and implications, holding tank regulations, debris control and operator proficiency are just a few of the issues we monitor for our members. When a change occurs that affects your business, we notify you right away.

BCMTA Membership
Corporate members of the BCYBA must already be a member of the BC Marine Trades Association. Benefits of this Association include exhibitor discounts for the Vancouver International Boat Show, Visa/Mastercard merchant deposit discounts, discounts on all BCMTA sponsored events such as Industry Conferences, regular updates on government regulations and industry news.
